A downloadable game

GameDev.tv has an awesome course series on developing an action RPG, split into four parts.

Currently I like Godot more than I like Unity. So I have started to transfer the RPG project to Godot.
I have reached a state where the in-game features from the first course (Core Combat) are pretty much there, as you can see in the preview video. This is solely gameplay content.

Big thanks to:

  • The inspirational people from GameDev.tv, in particular Rick and Sam for the RPG course, and Bram and Kaan for the Godot courses.
  • flemo-interactive.com for the Synty-to-Godot tutorials.
  • The people behind the Godot engine and its documentation.
  • JetBrains for the awesome Rider IDE.

There is no downloadable version yet - I still have a few issues to resolve before that. E.g.:

  • The combination of navigation and character movement is still a bit wonky at times.
  • I need to check out a terrain system for Godot. Consequently, not too much polish is applied yet.
  • A replacement for Cinemachine is missing; I have a WIP on a basic one that might suffice when done.
  • Using different animations for now - animation retargeting to be applied to the original ones.
  • As in the original Untiy Core Combat prototype, a few features are only placeholders for bigger systems in later courses, and thus designed for now as they are.

And then it's time to tackle the remainig three courses:

Followed by extensions and content expansion...
